چکیده

Method Five female patients (age 23, 37, 58, 70 and 76, mean 52.8) were diagnosed as massive pulmonary embolism with either acute irreversible pulmonary failure or cardiac collapse (2 CPR) by Chest CT or pulmonary angiography. All patients required ECMO support in addition to 2 endovascular Angiojet aspiration or 1 surgical pulmonary thromboembolectomy. The duration for ECMO survivors were 1, 2 and 7 days, respectively. All patients required anticoagulation (3 heparin, 2 r-TPA, 3 Coumadin and 1 urokinase) to resolve the residual emboli.

Life-threatening massive pulmonary embolism rescued by venoarterial-extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

BACKGROUND Despite quick implementation of reperfusion therapies, a few patients with high-risk, acute, massive, pulmonary embolism (PE) remain highly hemodynamically unstable. Others have absolute contraindication to receive reperfusion therapies. Venoarterial-extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) might lower their right ventricular overload, improve hemodynamic status, and restore tis...

Endovascular interventions for acute pulmonary embolism.

Massive pulmonary embolism (PE) is a highly lethal condition with clinical manifestations of hemodynamic instability, acute right ventricular (RV) failure, and cardiogenic shock. Submassive PE, as defined by RV failure or troponin elevation, can result in life-threatening sequelae if treatment is not initiated promptly. Current treatment paradigm in patients with massive PE mandates prompt risk...
